Should You Take Your Young Kids to Universal Orlando? Yes—Here’s Why.
There’s a popular belief floating around that Universal Orlando isn’t exactly “kid-friendly.” Maybe you’ve heard the whispers: “Universal is too intense for little ones.” Or “Just wait until they’re older.” Well, let’s clear that up.

Those claims? False. Completely.
While Universal certainly has its share of adrenaline-pumping rides and towering coasters, the idea that it’s only for older kids and teens doesn’t hold up anymore especially with exciting additions like DreamWorks Land and the brand-new Epic Universe. Universal is stepping up big time for the smaller adventurers.
Let’s Talk Ride Heights
It’s true some rides have height limits, but you might be surprised at just how many attractions younger kids can enjoy. For instance:
Universal Studios Florida (USF): 3 rides have no height requirement.
Islands of Adventure (IOA): 4 rides are available with no restrictions.
Epic Universe (EU): 2 rides are fully open to all heights.
Now, once your child hits 36 inches, even more doors open:
5 rides at USF
8 at IOA
3 at EU
When your child reaches 40 inches, it gets even better:
7 rides at USF
10 at IOA
8 at EU
That 40” mark is key it’s right in the 3–5-year-old range and unlocks access to a majority of kid-friendly rides.
And here’s something I love: If your little Spider-Man fan isn’t quite tall enough for their favorite ride, Universal team members don’t just turn you away. Instead, they’ll offer a “Come Back” card that lets your child (and up to 6 family members) skip the regular line next time they’re tall enough. It’s a fantastic touch that turns disappointment into excitement for the next visit.
Don’t Miss: The Child Swap System
Let’s be real sometimes the adults want to hop on a thrill ride. What if your child isn’t big enough yet?
Enter Child Swap. Here’s how it works:
Your group enters the queue together. Somewhere along the way, a designated waiting room is provided where one adult can stay with the child while the others ride. Then, you swap. The first adult returns to the waiting area, and the other gets to ride without waiting in line again. It’s easy, efficient, and makes sure everyone has fun—even when not everyone rides.
Beyond the Rides: What Can Young Kids Do?
The answer? A lot.
Universal is rich with interactive elements, character sightings, and themed zones that spark a child’s imagination at every turn. Slowing down and letting your kids explore freely is one of the best ways to experience the parks.
